The private school program at The Merit School of Stafford (K – 8th) offers an innovative education for middle school children. Our students are challenged by our curriculum and advanced concepts to teach children the necessary skills to learn, grow, and adapt to an ever-changing world.
Our warm, nurturing environment affords the students the opportunity to grow academically, emotionally, and socially. Our small class size, combined with our highly capable teachers and vast resource materials, enables the children to consistently receive personal attention from the teacher.
Our Middle School Curriculum
Our curriculum meets and at times exceeds, the Standards of Learning established by the Virginia Department of Education. As the established curriculum spirals from grade to grade, higher-level skills are introduced, reinforced, and reviewed throughout the year. Daily lessons combine the use of textbooks, workbooks, manipulatives, resource materials, computer assisted instruction, and audio-visual aides to enhance learning and mastery of the skill. Integration of subject matter is a vital component of our strong educational program. Whole and small group instruction, cooperative learning activities, and individualized instruction are utilized daily to meet the academic needs of our students.
Quality components of our middle school program include:
- A highly qualified, dedicated and experienced staff
- Low teacher/student ratio
- An enriched curriculum that exceeds the Virginia Standards of Learning
- Specialty teachers in the areas of technology, Spanish, and music
- Individualized instruction as well as small group learning
- Yearly standardized testing of students
- School uniforms: Kindergarten through Eighth Grade
- Family and Community Events
